Tap on the Media Library button, then select the Video button at the bottom of the screen. Navigate to the file of choice, then tap on it. You’ll see yellow dots on either side of the clip. You can drag these using your finger to shorten a clip, eliminating unwanted footage. Thankfully iMovie, Apple's video editing software that comes with iLife, is a fairly simple program that can allow even beginners to edit their own footage with little practice. And trimming down clips in iMovie is pretty simple if you just follow these easy instructions.
Pressing on your mouse button, drag the indicator left or right to shorten the clip, or to lengthen it if it has already been shortened or split. This is called trimming. Another way is to place the play head at the point in the clip where you want to split it, and then select Split Video Clip at Playhead from the Edit menu.
Option 2: Use 'Clip Trimmer' in iMovie Or you can select 'Show Clip Trimmer' (command + /) to trim your video. With Clip Trimmer, you need to click on video and move the cursor to trim the head and the end of video. In this processus you can preview the head and end of your video at the same time in the preview window.

Perhaps you’ve filmed a speech and want to cut to a person’s reaction, or you want to liven a scene by showing multiple angles.
It’s easy cut a clip in iMovie. Simply scroll the timeline with your finger so that the playhead (red vertical line) is positioned exactly where you want to cut.
Then, swipe your finger down over the playhead to cut the clip.
You’ll see the cut represented by a square black icon with a vertical line. You can tap on this to change it to a fade.
